Sophie Pullen – Soprano

 Picture of Sophie PullenSussex born soprano Sophie Pullen recently completed postgraduate studies at Birmingham Conservatoire, studying with mezzo-soprano Christine Cairns. During her studies at Birmingham Sophie played the roles of Lauretta – Gianni Schicchi, Galatea – Acis and Galatea, Rose Maurrant – Street Scene and took part in many contemporary works, masterclasses and public performances, including as a Finalist in the Mario Lanza, Ashleyan Opera, Singing and Cecil Drew Oratorio Prizes. She was recently awarded 3rd in the Edward Brooks English Song Prize.

Sophie began singing with the Youth Opera at Glyndebourne and has since sung with British Youth Opera and at The Royal Opera House in a student chorus of Linda di Chamonix with Sir Mark Elder. Before pursuing her operatic ambitions Sophie gained a First Class mathematics degree from Leeds University. She is a keen oratorio soloist and recitalist; recent performances include Carmina Burana, Elijah, as a Quarter-Finalist in the International Student LiedDuo Competition, and a recital as part of Birmingham Symphony Hall’s Beyond Classical series. Upcoming engagements include Exsultate Jubilate with Buxted Symphony Orchestra, recitals in London and Sussex and Mozart’s Mass in C minor.
