Meinir Wyn Roberts – Soprano

Picture of Meinir RobertsMeinir Wyn Roberts is a twenty one year old Soprano from Caernarfon in North Wales. She is currently in her third year at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester studying Opera with Sandra Dugdale.

During her time at the RNCM she has taken part in the chorus in the production of ‘La Clemenza de Tito’ – Mozart, ‘Carmen’ – Bizet and ‘Vanessa’ – Samuel Barber.

In 2010 she played the role of one of the Pit singers in the Outreach production of the African/American Super Soul musical ‘The Wiz’. She is also an active member of the RNCM Chamber Choir and has performed as a soloist with the Caernarfon Male Voice Choir on more than one occasion.

Her TV appearances include the BBC programme ‘Last Choir Standing’ with Ysgol Glanaethwy Choir where she sang the solo in the song ‘Circle of Life’ that took them to the final stage of the competition. Performing a solo and a duet with the Welsh tenor Huw Llywelyn on S4C’s Noson Lawen was another significant highlight of 2011. In addition she has sung alongside Peter Karrie as well as participating in a Masterclass with Gareth Roberts at the Royal Academy of Music.

Meinir came second in two competitions at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 2011, the Operatic Solo and the Art Song in the 19 – 25 age group. Following this she was awarded the Violet Mary Lewis Scholarship for the most promising Soprano in the competition. Recently Meinir was privileged to win a personal Masterclass with renowned mezzo-soprano Leah Marian Jones as a part of the Radio programme ‘Cyfle Cothi’ who gave her inspiring words for the future.
