Emma Stannard – Mezzo Soprano

Picture of Emma StannardHaving been awarded a first class BMus (Hons) degree from the Royal Northern College of Music, Emma is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree at the same institution studying as a mezzo-soprano with Peter Wilson, having received an AHRC scholarship. Emma has also worked with Lynne Dawson, Jane Irwin, David Owen Norris, Anthony Spiri, Sir Mark Elder, Rosamund Illing and Catherine Wynn-Rogers through participation in masterclasses. Since joining the RNCM, she has won the Onken Song Competition and has been awarded the The Freckleton Prize & Doherty Cup for Singing. Emma has also covered the role of Melanto in Il ritorno d’Ulisse (Monteverdi) and taken the role of Mrs Jaffet in a production of Noyes Fludde (Britten) for Opera Outreach. Chorus appearances at the RNCM include performances of Die Fledermaus, Katya Kabanova, La Belle Hélène, La Clemenza di Tito and Carmen. Involvement in Opera Excerpt’s include scenes from The Rape of Lucretia, Onegin, Die Zauberflöte, La Cenerentola, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Faust. For ‘Young Opera Venture,’ Emma has taken the title role in scenes from Carmen as well as appearing in excepts from The Magic Flute, The Merry wives of Windsor and Cosi fan tutte.

On the concert platform, Emma has performed works including Belle Nuit from Les contes d’Hoffmann (Offenbach) with the Opera North orchestra and an excerpt from Pierrot Lunaire (Schoenberg) at the South Bank Centre, London opening ‘The Rest is Noise’ year long festival. Emma appears regularly on the Oratorio platform, performing works including Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus, Dixit Dominus and Messiah, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solonelle, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Vivaldi’s Magnificat as well as his Gloria and Purcell’s Come Ye Sons of Art at the Beverley Early Music Festival. Emma has also performed both as a chorus member and as a soloist for the Yorke Trust, Norfolk for performances of Handel’s Israel in Egypt and Bach’s Du Hirte Israel, Hore BWV 104. Future engagements include a performance at the British Museum, London and a summer season with Opera de Baugé, France this July.
