Samantha Price – Mezzo Soprano

Picture of Samantha PriceOriginally from Bridgend, South Wales, Sam initially graduated with a first class BSc (Hons) degree in speech and language therapy from Reading University in 2009 before beginning her formal musical training at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in 2010. Studying under Janet Price and coached by Michael Pollock and Angela Livingstone, Sam graduated from the MA Opera Performance course with distinction in July 2012. This was made possible by the generous support of the following scholarships: the Dame Shirley Bassey scholarship, the Jenkin Philips memorial scholarship, the Lee Freeman prize and the Aneurin Davies Memorial Prize. Outside of college Sam was also a grateful recipient of an Advanced Study Award in Music from the Arts Council of Wales, and was on the scholarship scheme at the BBC National Chorus of Wales, for whom she has performed solos at St. David’s Hall and St. Paul’s Cathedral. In September 2012 Sam made her professional debut, performing with English National Opera in their production of Julietta by Bohuslav Martinů.

In February 2013 she became a Samling Scholar, participating in an intensive master class week led by Sir Thomas Allen, Yvonne Kenny & Caroline Dowdle. She also performed her first solo recital in The Great Hall at Reading University along side Michael Pollock, which was kindly supported by The Friends of the University. Sam has recently completed the ENO Opera Works programme, for which she was generously supported by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, and is thrilled to be continuing her training at the National Opera Studio in September 2013.

Sam has been a master class participant with Dame Anne Evans, Anne Mason, Kathryn Harries and Rebecca Evans. She had the opportunity to work with John Fisher as part of the Cardiff Singer of the World master class series in 2011. Sam took part in the British Youth Opera Easter workshop in 2011 with Martin Lloyd-Evans and David Gowland, and in 2013 with Paul Curran and Peter Robinson. Since June 2012 Sam has been a member of the Live Music Now scheme, established by Yehudi Menuhin.
