Matthew Durkan – Baritone

Matthew DurkanBritish baritone Matthew Durkan, is a student of Dennis O’Neill CBE and Nuccia Focile at the Wales International Academy of Voice (under a scholarship from the Dennis O’Neill Foundation) and graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire in 2013, where he was the winner of multiple prizes and awards. Matthew was a 2014 Kathleen Ferrier Awards finalist and is an artist on English National Opera’s 2013/14 Opera Works scheme. He will continue his training at the National Opera Studio in 2014/15 (supported by English National Opera).

​Operatic roles include Guglielmo Cosi fan tutte (cover, English National Opera), Belcore L’elisir d’amore (ENO Opera Works), Garibaldo Rodelinda (ENO Opera Works), Count Robinson The Secret Marriage and Indian The Bartered Bride (cover, British Youth Opera), Gianni Schicchi, Frank Maurrant Street Scene (Birmingham Conservatoire) and Agamemnon Iphigenia in Aulis (Birmingham Arts Festival).

Concert performances have included Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, Haydn’s The Seasons and Stabat Mater, Bach’s Easter Oratorio and Magnificat, Mozart’s RequiemCoronation Mass and C Minor Mass, Handel’s The Messiah, and Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs and Dona Nobis Pacem.
