The Dean & Chadlington Summer Music Festival is delighted to have local legend Ben Waddilove open the festival for us this year with a brand new event - a Jazz Supper at Chipping Norton Town Hall. We’re also thrilled to be partnering with local food producer, Pink Salt Shed, who produce beautiful fresh pestos, rubs, sauces and seasonings right here in Chipping Norton. An evening of varied jazz instrumentals and songs coupled with stunning fresh food is not to be missed.
Ben is a truly multi-talented musician and composer who enjoys an extensive and varied repertoire of genres including jazz, blues, gospel, contemporary, classical and Christian worship music. He has performed at Ronnie Scotts, The Groucho Club, The Bedford, The Alleycat, The Camden Club, The Kindred Club, Alex James’ Big Feastival, Car Fest, and regularly at jazz@Pizza Express in Dubai.
Ben has assembled a brilliant five piece band for the evening performing a programme of contemporary jazz/fusion/funk/soul infused instrumentals and songs. Seating will be cabaret style with tables making this the perfect event to enjoy with friends and fellow music lovers.

Afternoon Tea Concert with Aimee Kearney (soprano) and Patrick Keefe (baritone)

The ticket price includes tea and cakes on the lawn after the concert. You will also have the opportunity to explore the wonderful grounds, within the unique setting of the Moorish Pavilion
at Kingham Lodge.
Aimee Kearney was one of our 2023 Singing Competition winners and is an Irish operatic soprano. She is a recent graduate of The Royal Irish Academy of Music, receiving a first-class honours in vocal performance.
Aimee has starred as leading and supporting roles in operas in Ireland and abroad, including ‘Dominic the prince’ in Elisabeth Maconchy’s The Sofa, (RIAM), ‘Suor Genovieffa’ in Puccini’s Suor Angelica (Berlin Opera Academy) and ‘Sandmännchen’ in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel (Lyric Opera Ireland). Aimee is a frequent competition finalist and winner in the UK and Ireland, and has performed as soprano soloist in numerous oratorios and choral works, including Vivaldi’s Gloria and Dixit Dominus, d’Astorga’s Stabat Mater, and Bach’s Nun Komm, der Heiden Heiland.
Patrick is a Harewood Artist of the English National Opera, where he has recently performed Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and Marchese d’Obigny (La Traviata) and is the Nicholas John Fellow.
He graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2022, and subsequently was a Jerwood Young Artist at Glyndebourne, where he won the John Christie Award for his work singing Carlotto and covering Malatesta (Don Pasquale), and with whom he appeared as Il Conte (Le Nozze di Figaro) on tour.
Recent engagements include cover Demetrius (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), cover for Sir Bryn Terfel as Gianni Schicchi for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and Robert Dedo (Die Schwarze Maske – Penderecki) for the NOSPR in Katowice under Marin Alsop for medici.tv.

The Carducci Quartet is internationally acclaimed as one of the most accomplished and versatile ensembles of today. Not only mastering the core repertoire, the quartet presents a selection of new works each season and diversifies further with programmes of film music, pop and rock Founded in 1997, the ensemble has won numerous international competitions, including the Concert Artists Guild International Competition USA 2007 and First Prize at Finland’s Kuhmo International Chamber Music Competition 2004. In 2016, they took home a Royal Philharmonic Society Award for performances of their cycle of the complete Shostakovich Quartets.
The quartet has also released a bevy of acclaimed recordings on their own label, Carducci Classics, and their Naxos recordings of the Philip Glass Quartets have had over six million plays on Spotify.

Singing Competition 2024

The prestigious Singing Competition is one of the highlights of the Festival. It is pitched at emerging artists and judged by eminent operatic experts, with former judges including Quentin
Hayes and Dame Ann Murray. This year our guest judge is Jonathan Veira.
The majority of past winners have gone on to have stellar careers.
One such example is Samantha Price, a mezzo soprano, who has gone on to win many accolades and to perform at both the Royal Opera and English National Opera.

Junior Royal Birmingham Conservatoire – Piano concert

The Junior Conservatoire provides specialist training in the heart of Birmingham for some of the region’s most talented young musicians. Courses are offered in both jazz and classical music. The Junior and Senior Conservatoires are uniquely intertwined, and senior staff are actively involved in both individual teaching and masterclasses. The teaching take place on Saturdays during school term-time made up of a combination of individual lessons, chamber music, ensemble work, and classes in theory and aural. Orchestras and larger ensembles meet in the afternoon. Performance is central to all courses and students appear regularly both in the Conservatoire’s own halls and in venues around the city. Our alumni can be found in all of the British conservatoires.
Students are accepted purely on merit and our means-tested bursary system that includes the government’s Music and Dance Scheme awards, ensures that the fees are not a barrier to joining.
